Kansasville, Wis. Man Sentenced to Prison for Assaulting DNR Warden
TOWN OF LINCOLN, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) today announced Forest County Circuit Court Judge Leon D. Stenz sentenced Mark A. Szczerba II, 43, of Kansasville, Wis., to 4.5 years initial confinement and 4.5 years extended supervision after Szczerba pleaded guilty to battery to a law enforcement officer and attempted battery to a law enforcement officer following an officer involved critical incident investigated by DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in July of 2022.
On July 15, 2022, Szczerba brutally attacked a DNR warden who pulled over his daughter for speeding while driving a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) in the Town of Lincoln, Wis. The DNR warden stated that they feared for their life. The DNR warden fired their weapon during the attack, striking Szczerba. The Forest County District Attorney cleared the DNR warden of any criminal charges for their actions in November of 2022.DCI led the investigation of this case. The Forest County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted this case with assistance from Assistant Attorney General Adrienne Blais.
