Joey Balistreri Announces Run for MPS Board of Directors, District 7

MILWAUKEE—Joey Balistreri, a former public school teacher, teacher-coach, and parent of a child with special needs, announced his candidacy for the district 7 seat of Milwaukee Public Schools, Board of Directors.
“This election will be about the right perspective and priorities that move Milwaukee’s children forward,” said Balistreri. “I want to continue my impact in education by offering my unique perspective to represent the students, families, and teachers of District seven.”
Balistreri earned his bachelor’s degree in violin performance from George Mason University and is earning his Master’s in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His time in the classroom—both as a teacher and academic coach—gives him valuable perspective. Balistreri’s campaign prioritizes the following:
- Early Childhood Education: As the parent of a child with special needs, Joey knows the importance of increasing access to a quality education for all students at an early age. All kids deserve the opportunity to start Kindergarten on the right track. He will push for more high-quality seats in Milwaukee Public Schools.
- Increased Enrollment: There is a concerted effort to privatize Milwaukee Public Schools. Joey is against the expansion of voucher schools and non-instrumentality charter schools within MPS.
- Recruitment and Retention: MPS deserves great teachers. As we work to bring the best and brightest to MPS, Joey will focus on creating a leadership pipeline and increasing the retention of great MPS employees.
Joey Balistreri lives in the Jackson Park neighborhood with his husband Michael, a naval officer and Rufus King graduate, and their son Liam. For more information, visit www.joeybalistreri.com
