MILWAUKEE (April 30, 2023) — Summer kicks off in less than a month with the reopening of Bay View’s Humboldt Park beer garden and the first of seven nights of jazz performances on Thursday, May 26.

Jazz at The Vine was enthusiastically supported in its inaugural season last year with large crowds attending the four performances at the park’s beer garden. The concert series is expanding to seven nights this summer. It is presented by Humboldt Park Friends (HPF), a nonprofit volunteer group working to improve the 73-acre park, the Milwaukee County Parks Department, and Bay View resident Gary Hollander.

“We’re adding three additional nights to the series this year because of the overwhelmingly positive response last year. We are also partnering with the Bay View Jazz Fest for Bay View Gallery Night on June 2 for our only Friday of the series” said Ignacio Catral, former HPF president who is organizing the series. “This series has allowed us to not only support Milwaukee County Parks but also indirectly support organizations like MKE Jazz Vision and the Milwaukee Jazz Institute – two organizations dedicated promoting jazz in Milwaukee. Last year, people let us know they enjoyed the music and wanted more.”

Jazz at The Vine will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. at The Vine, the beer garden in the center of Humboldt Park. The Jazz at The Vine line-up is:

• May 25 – Andrew Spadafora’s Fountain of Youth
• June 2 – Bay View Jazz Fest
• June 29 – Sam Steffke Trio
• July 13 – CNJ Latin Jazz
• July 27 – Lesser Lakes Trio
• August 10 – Milwaukee Jazz Institute Night
• August 31 – The Erotic Adventures of the Static Chicken

Performances will be rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, the performances will be moved inside the park’s pavilion adjacent to the beer garden. Free parking is available near The Vine on Park Road, E. Idaho Street and along E. Oklahoma Avenue and S. Howell Avenue.

Local businesses sponsoring Jazz at The Vine include Mindpool Live, Beer Capitol Distributing, Park 22 Real Estate, Lakefront Brewery, and Peter Adams of Coldwell Banker Realty. Public radio stations 88Nine Radio Milwaukee and 91.7 WMSE are media sponsors of the summer jazz series. “Our focus is to draw more people to Humboldt Park by creating events that engage the community,” said Catral. “Jazz at The Vine showcases the best local jazz musicians and gives individuals and families a no-cost opportunity to enjoy a summer evening at one of the jewels of our county park system.” For more information, go to https://www.humboldtparkmilwaukee.org/jazz-at-the-vine.

About Humboldt Park

Originally named South Park, Humboldt Park was one of six parks created when the City of Milwaukee established a Parks Commission in 1890. The original 45-acre park opened in 1891 and a picturesque lagoon and adjoining creek were excavated two years later. In 1900, the park was renamed Humboldt Park in honor of Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt, a Prussian geographer and naturalist who did extensive work on botanical geography. Humboldt Park continues to be a center point of the Bay View neighborhood providing a wealth of events and accessible nature within an urban park setting. The park is known as favorite destination for family-friendly celebrations, concerts, tennis and baseball and has its own beer garden.
