Hip Hop Caucus, a national nonprofit organization that uses the power of hip-hop culture to advance civil and human rights, will host a cookout in Milwaukee TOMORROW – Saturday, September 10 – at America’s Black Holocaust Museum to launch the 2022 midterm cycle of its Respect My Vote! campaign.

Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and Milwaukee County Supervisor Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones said the event will be a fun way to bring awareness to the power of voting, to social issues and discussing solutions to problems.

“The Hip Hop Caucus has found a creative way to educate and inform the community through the Respect My Vote campaign, and I am glad that Milwaukee residents will have the opportunity to be a part of a national empowerment effort to ensure that all residents know the value and importance of their vote,” Alderwoman Coggs said.

Supervisor Coggs-Jones said she strongly encourages residents to attend the event to “soak in the meaningful messages delivered in a fun atmosphere.”

“The footprint that hip hop has left in politics has been on-going since the eighties, with the beats and messaging easily influencing and engaging the audience to participate in politics, and especially to make their voices heard through voting,” Supervisor Coggs-Jones said.

Reminiscent of an HBCU homecoming celebration, the free event will feature music, food, games and information about the social and political issues that are on the ballot this November. Milwaukee is one of just seven U.S. cities selected for the Hip Hop Caucus cookout event.
