Gov. Tony Evers announced today his appointment of Peter Rindal to serve as Eau Claire County District Attorney.

Rindal is a native of Eau Claire County, growing up on his family’s dairy farm near Fall Creek. After receiving his law degree, he worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Monroe County and then spent a year as an associate at an Eau Claire law firm. Since 2013 he has been with the Eau Claire County District Attorney’s Office, first as an Assistant District Attorney and then as the Deputy District Attorney. As Deputy District Attorney, Rindal handles a full caseload of complex felonies while managing a team of nine prosecutors. He has experience making personnel decisions, training new prosecutors, and working with law enforcement agencies and stakeholders throughout the county.

“Peter Rindal is a great fit for the job. He is a skilled prosecutor with deep roots in his community,” said Gov. Evers. “He cares deeply about protecting the public and improving the criminal justice system. I am confident that he will be an excellent district attorney for the people of Eau Claire County.”

“I am honored by the confidence Governor Evers has placed in me. I am committed to the people of Eau Claire County and I will work hard to keep our community safe and continue to earn the public’s trust,” said Rindal.

“Peter Rindal is an experienced prosecutor who is trustworthy and possesses the leadership skills and community knowledge to serve in this vital role. With poise, integrity and compassion, Mr. Rindal has shown he is committed to ensuring public safety, collaborating with justice system partners and strengthening the community’s trust,” said Matt Rokus, Eau Claire Police Chief.

“We are very confident in Mr. Rindal’s ability to take over the Eau Claire County District Attorney’s Office,” said Ron Cramer, Eau Claire County Sheriff. “I have known Mr. Rindal since he has been at Eau Claire County, he is a very efficient and effective criminal attorney. Our department looks forward to working with our new District Attorney and we wish him all success.”

Rindal is an active member of the Eau Claire community, volunteering for numerous community events. Rindal was an All-American member of the Wisconsin Dairy Cattle Judging Team in 2004 and has remained active with numerous dairy organizations. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Gov. Evers’ appointment fills a vacancy created by the resignation of former District Attorney Gary King. Rindal will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2025.
