Democratic US Reps Gwen Moore, Mark Pocan Cruised to Victory
Moore will serve for her 12th term, Pocan for his eighth term.
Wisconsin’s incumbent Democratic U.S. Reps Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) and Mark Pocan (D-Black Earth) cruised to early reelection victories Tuesday evening as Democrats across the nation gained momentum in more competitive races, setting up a likely Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives.
AP called the race in Wisconsin’s 4th Congressional District for Moore at 8:49 p.m. on Tuesday. With 70% of the vote tallied, Moore led with 78.5% of the vote to Republican Tim Rogers’ 18.8% and Independent Arthur Burks’ 2.7%
Moore, who will serve her 12th term in Congress, is the longest tenured member of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation. She has represented her Milwaukee-area district since 2005. Before being elected to Congress she served in the state Assembly and Senate. Moore serves on the tax subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee and is a member of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, Congressional Progressive Caucus, LGBT Equality Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, the Great Lakes Caucus, and the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
In the 2nd Congressional District, Pocan ran unopposed for the seat he has held since 2013. Before running for Congress, he served for 14 years in the state Assembly. A small business owner, union member, and advocate for progressive causes, he serves on the powerful House Appropriations Committee and is co-chair of the Equality Caucus, co-chair of the Labor Caucus, and chair emeritus of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
