Gov. Evers Appoints Cody Kanable as Green County Sheriff
Gov. Tony Evers today appointed Cody Kanable as Green County Sheriff. The appointment fills a vacancy being created by Sheriff Jeffrey Skatrud’s retirement, effective June 30, 2024. Kanable will complete the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2027.
Kanable has been a law enforcement officer for the past sixteen years. In 2008, he joined the Green County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy. Since then, he has been a canine handler, patrol sergeant, lieutenant, and SWAT team leader. In October 2023, he was appointed the undersheriff, and in February 2024, he became the chief deputy. In these roles, he is responsible for managing personnel, public relations, and collaborating with stakeholders in the community. During his time with the Green County Sheriff’s Office, he has also completed leadership training programs with both the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the National Tactical Officers Association.
“Chief Deputy Kanable is a highly respected member of Green County’s law enforcement community and fully prepared to take on the responsibilities of Green County Sheriff,” said retiring Green County Sheriff Jeffrey Skatrud. “I’m pleased to congratulate Cody and excited for the future of the Green County Sheriff’s Office.”
Kanable lives in Brodhead with his family and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He is involved in the dairy industry and supports youth dairy showing with 4-H and FFA programs in Green County.
