Gov. Doyle: Statement on the Passing of Hank Aaron

MADISON — Gov. Jim Doyle today released the following statement on the passing of Hank Aaron:

“As a Milwaukee Braves fan, Hank Aaron was my boyhood hero. Whoever said you should never meet your childhood heroes never met Hank Aaron. Later in life, I was fortunate to get to know Hank Aaron as a friend. Although he was the greatest baseball player of all time, he was an even better human being. Humble, thoughtful, kind. He used his position to promote equality and help many others along their life paths. He never forgot Milwaukee and Wisconsin. And Wisconsin loved him back. One day, as we traveled the state together, many years after his playing days were over, I watched as people from all walks of life, from big cities and small towns, came up and shared memories with him. At least five men told him that they were named after him. He visited us often, and through his foundation, helped many young people in this state. RIP #44.”
