FPC decision on Acting Chief Norman a step in the right direction
Statement of Common Council President Cavalier Johnson September 3, 2021
I applaud the Fire and Police Commission (FPC) for last night’s decision to invite Acting Chief Norman to apply as the sole applicant for the position of permanent chief. I have made the call to the FPC in the past to make Jeffrey Norman chief, and yesterday’s news puts us one step closer to that reality.
As a Milwaukee native with 25 years of experience in law enforcement in a variety of capacities, Acting Chief Norman’s resume speaks for itself. In addition to his immense experience, he is highly regarded by the community, his fellow officers as well as elected officials.
I believe as chief of the Milwaukee Police Department, Jeffrey Norman can produce the leadership, stability and vision needed to improve our community, and I hope we see him in that role in the near future.
