Fitzgerald Leads Letter to DOJ Demanding an Investigation into Violence Against Pro-Life Organizations

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) was joined by his colleagues Congressman Glenn Grothman (WI-06), Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07), Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01), and Congressman Mike Gallagher (WI-08), in sending a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding an investigation into the arson of Wisconsin Family Action’s office in Madison.

Rather than focusing on defusing threats against Americans for their political beliefs, the Department of Justice has, in the last 17 months, spent time and resources to target conservatives while taking a hands-off approach to left-wing violence,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “The arson of Wisconsin Family Values’ office in Madison must be investigated thoroughly and Attorney General Garland must put partisanship aside to put a stop to these pro-abortion extremists, who have already promised more violence if their demands are not met.”

BACKGROUND

In response to the unprecedented leak of the majority opinion in Dobbs v Jackson, abortion supporters across the country have engaged in animated and even violent activity, including harassing Supreme Court Justices at their homes, which is illegal under 18 U.S.C. § 1507. On May 8, 2022, two Molotov cocktails was thrown at and into the Family Action office in Madison and a message was spray-painted on the exterior of the building, stating: “if abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either.”

So Fitzgerald is complaining that the DOJ is investigating the violent attack on the U.S. capitol in an attempt to overthrow the U.S. government (17 months statement).

He offers no examples of left-wing violence, he just makes a provocative statement to rile some people.

Yes, the arson of Wisconsin Family Action’s office in Madison needs to be investigated, and whomever is responsible needs to be held accountable. There is no guarantee that this violence was carried out by a left-wing group. The purpose of an investigation is to go where the evidence points, to get to the truth, which Fitzgerald and too many others continue to corrupt.

Mr. Fitzgerald needs to take a stand on the violence committed on Capitol Police on January 6 by Trump’s rioters.
