Federal Mask Mandate for Public Transportation Extended

MILWAUKEE (August 23, 2021) — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has extended a federal mandate requiring the use of masks on all public transportation networks in the United States.

Passengers and employees are required to wear masks while on board all buses, commuter trains, commercial aircraft, and airports – regardless of vaccination status – through at least January 18, 2022.

This federal requirement supersedes any local or state mask policies.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, MCTS has worked tirelessly to keep passengers and employees safe while still offering essential transit services that the community depends on. Getting vaccinated and following best health practices – like washing hands and continuing to wear masks while in close proximity to others – are important steps we can all take as we move forward together.
