Estabrook Beer Garden Plans Season Opening Celebration with Free Beer
Summer like temperatures lead to a “Pre-Season” opening of Estabrook Beer Garden last week and full operating hours this week, but there is still a grand opening to come! Friday, April 21 will mark the official 2023 Grand Opening Weekend at Estabrook. Milwaukee County Officials, Parks Officials and Beer Lovers will be on-hand at 6:00pm when District 1 County Supervisor, Liz Sumner taps the wooden keg. The beer will flow, as everyone enjoys 1-hour of Free Hofbräu Original Lager. There will be live music from Jon Dietz and the Twin Lakes Trio and a Stein Holding Contest at 7pm.
The rich history of German beer has been helped in no small part by the creation of the Reinheitsgebot, the “purity law” issued on 23 April in 1516 that decreed how beer had to be brewed and sold in the state of Bavaria. The regulation demanded purity, with only water, barley and hops being permitted in the beverage, and aimed to both protect consumers from poor quality, overly priced beer and ensure that there was enough wheat and rye for bread-making. Estabrook Beer Garden will celebrate the Reinheitsgebot Sunday, April 23 with a Ceremonial Keg Tapping at Noon. There will be Free Beer from the keg while it lasts and Live Music with the Squeezettes!
Estabrook Beer Garden represents a return to an era that disappeared from our landscape with the start of Prohibition. It is the first truly public beer garden in America in nearly 100 years. Inspirations came from Milwaukee’s brewing legacy and the operation is modeled after beer gardens found in modern day Munich, Germany. The Estabrook Beer Garden is a place for all people to come together enjoy nature, a great beer and make new friends. Located on the banks of the Milwaukee River, the beer garden is set on a bluff just above a waterfall. Visitors arrive by foot, bicycle, automobile, kayak and canoe.
Open Daily at Noon, April to Mid-November.
