Dwain E. Berry, Sr. Announces Candidacy for Milwaukee Alderman for the 9th District
MILWAUKEE, WI — Dwain E. Berry, Sr. announced his candidacy today for Milwaukee’s 9th aldermanic district.
Dwain was born and raised in Milwaukee and is a lifelong resident of the city and a 12-year resident of the 9th district. He has a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from the Milwaukee Theological Institute. Dwain is currently employed as an Operations Manager at Matt Talbot Recovery Services. Located at 26th and North Avenue in the heart of the central city, Matt Talbot has been providing residential treatment services for mental illness and drug abuse since 1966.
Over the years, Matt Talbot has helped hundreds of thousands of clients recover from the scourge of mental and drug abuse disorders, and transition to rejoining their families as productive citizens. Dwain personally engages with clients on a daily basis to ensure that they get the healthcare services they need in order to recover. He also helps them to secure housing if needed. Dwain is either working or on call 24 hours per day.
As alderman, Dwain will be focused on an action-oriented agenda in collaboration with the Mayor and his fellow alderpersons to help solve urgent, critical challenges faced by the city, especially gun violence, reckless driving, and affordable housing/home ownership. Dwain believe that the City can wisely use its financial and other resources, including federal pandemic grants received by the City, to promote entrepreneurship. Dwain is especially interested in pursuing an agenda of providing education in the areas of math and science, and financial literacy, to our youngsters in order to prepare them for the job market and success in life. In addition, he will use his vast experience in health and social services to bring resources to bear to help those suffering from mental health and drug abuse disorders.
“My foregoing agenda will help dramatically reduce crime and create stable neighborhoods. I am eager to give back to the city I love and take on the challenges faced by the 9th aldermanic district and the city of Milwaukee at large. My wife, who is an educator and a teacher, has pledged to stand by me and join me in the exciting journey that we as a couple will undertake in serving the people. People are people – no matter what their race or ethnic background or socio-economic status. We need to come together with love, compassion and a sense of community. I prefer to see the good in all people and in their god given ability to change their lives and become better persons.”
