Doula Co. MKE Opens in Bay View, Bringing Compassionate Postpartum Care to Milwaukee Families
Milwaukee, WI — A new business dedicated to supporting families during the tender and transformative postpartum period has officially opened its doors in the Bay View neighborhood. Doula Co. MKE, founded by longtime caregiver and certified postpartum doula Joni Chmiel, is redefining what it means to care for new families — with professionalism, heart, and community at the core.
“Our mission is rooted in the idea that every family deserves to feel empowered, nurtured, and fully supported during one of the most life-changing times they’ll ever experience,” said Chmiel. “We’re here to normalize postpartum care — not as a luxury, but as a vital part of the reproductive journey.”
Unlike many traditional models, all doulas at Doula Co. MKE are employees, not contractors, allowing for greater consistency, accountability, and collaboration. This unique structure helps build stronger relationships between doulas and families while providing much-needed stability and support for caregivers themselves.
At its core, the organization is guided by values of compassion, collaboration, integrity, and inclusion — and is designed to uplift not only clients, but also the doulas who serve them. “How we care for our doulas directly impacts how we care for families,” said Chmiel. “We’ve created a work culture that’s professional, grounded, and centered in respect.”
Located in the heart of Bay View, the company is already making an impact in neighborhoods throughout Milwaukee, with a long-term vision of expanding access to quality postpartum support across the region.
“Our presence is growing, but our foundation remains the same,” said Chmiel. “At every level, our work is about trust, connection, and care. We’re proud to be part of Milwaukee’s thriving family support ecosystem — and even prouder to call Bay View our home.”
