DNR Announces Public Hearing And Comment Period For Proposed Landfill Expansion In Menomonee Falls
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced it will host a public informational hearing on May 18 for the proposed 76.6-acre expansion to Waste Management of Wisconsin, Inc.’s Orchard Ridge Eastern Landfill.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the department will limit the maximum capacity in the hearing room to 25 people and request attendees wear face masks and social distance. Due to the limited capacity, the public is encouraged to join the meeting via Zoom online video conferencing. Zoom attendees are asked to pre-register for the meeting here.
The public is also encouraged to submit written comments on the proposed landfill expansion by May 28, 2021 to:
David Buser, Department of Natural Resources
2300 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
Milwaukee, WI 53212
Or via email: David.Buser@wisconsin.gov
The feasibility report proposes a 76.6-acre contiguous expansion, including a 17.0-acre vertical overlay, onto the existing Orchard Ridge East Expansion Landfill that would increase the disposal capacity of approximately 10,571,145 cubic yards and add an estimated 7.7 years of site life.
The purpose of the DNR review of the feasibility report is to determine whether the proposed site is feasible for use as a municipal solid waste disposal facility. Copies of the complete feasibility report and the DNR’s project summary containing an environmental analysis are available for public review here.
More information about the hearing and comment period is available on the DNR’s Waste & Materials Management webpage.
