Democratic Party of Wisconsin Statement on Eric Hovde’s RNC Speech

MADISON, Wis. — Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Arik Wolk released the following statement in response to Eric Hovde’s speech at the RNC: 

“Nothing out-of-touch California multimillionaire Eric Hovde said on stage can change the fact that for months, Wisconsinites have heard him make disparaging remarks about folks across the state while pushing policies to benefit himself and his wealthy buddies. Wisconsinites will reject Eric Hovde and the disrespect he shows them every day, and will reelect Tammy Baldwin, who spends every minute working for Wisconsin families–from protecting made-in-America manufacturing, to standing up to Big Pharma, and defending our reproductive freedoms.”

What to know about Eric Hovde: 

• Hovde is a California bank owner with more ties to California than Wisconsin.  Hovde owns a $3 billion California bank, which has earned him the title of Orange County’s most influential person three years in a row. He was recently caught skipping out on a rural Wisconsin campaign event to lounge on the white sands of his private beach at his $7 million dollar Laguna Beach home.

• Hovde only cares about the ultra-wealthy like himself and looks down on  Wisconsinites. Hovde insults the people of Wisconsin every time he opens his mouth, saying farmers don’t work hard anymore, people in nursing homes shouldn’t vote, single parents put their kids on a ‘direct path to poverty’, and more.

• Hovde is a walking conflict of interest. Hovde, who is worth upwards of over half a billion dollars, which would make him one of the wealthiest Senators, is refusing to give up ownership of his bank if he is elected to the Senate, meaning he could vote on bank regulatory policy while owning and profiting off his bank, all while his bank is accepting millions of dollars from foreign banks and governments. Recent reports uncovered that Hovde’s family business did business in China and that he invested millions in foreign companies involved in bribery, tax evasion, and money laundering in Iran, Cuba, and Libya. And he has refused to answer questions about how he is a walking conflict of interest.
