"The Black Caucus of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin supports the calls for peace, requested by the family of Sylville Smith."
MADISON — The following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Black Caucus Vice-Chair Felesia Martin with regards to last week’s verdict in the Heaggan-Brown trial:
“The Black Caucus of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin supports the calls for peace, requested by the family of Sylville Smith. After the disappointing verdict in the trial of former Milwaukee Police Officer Heaggan-Brown, Mr. Smith’s sister, Sherelle Smith, said, it’s time to ‘Do something different in the community.’
“We would encourage members of the community to join us in our work to educate our community about the benefits of civic and voter engagement. When we elect individuals who are committed to social justice, racial equity, and respect for diversity it helps to improve employment, education, health, and criminal justice outcomes. Our thoughts are with the Smith family, friends, and community. #BlackLivesMatter”
