MILWAUKEE — Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner and State Rep. Francesca Hong (D-Madison) will headline a rally at Black Husky Brewing in Milwaukee on Saturday, May 2, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. The event is part of the campaign’s We Make Better Possible: LIVE rally series. The lineup will feature live music from Riverwest bands (plus a performance from a top-secret guest). There will also be food trucks, remarks from Milwaukee Alderman Alex Brower, State Rep. Ryan Clancy (D-Milwaukee), and a speech from Hong, who is running on a platform of permanent affordability for working Wisconsinites.

“Riverwest has been the center of progressive politics in Milwaukee for over 50 years, and Toni and I felt that Black Husky could provide a platform in our community for progressive candidates in the gubernatorial race,” said Tim Eichinger, owner of Black Husky Brewing. “We are pleased to host Fran Hong this Saturday, May 2. There will be a lineup of Riverwest bands and food trucks as well.”

This rally arrives at a moment of growing momentum for Hong’s campaign, which has consistently led the Democratic field in Marquette Law School polling and built a grassroots volunteer base of more than 3,000 Wisconsinites across all 72 counties, all while refusing corporate PAC contributions.

“This campaign answers to the only true majority — working people,” said Hong. “We’re running to create permanent affordability in Wisconsin. If you’re on board with that, there’s a seat for you at this table — and a place for you on the dance floor.”

  1. Thomas Gaudynski says:

It’s admirable for candidate Hong, but these are not the citizens who are going to elect the next governor on their own. Seems like safe campaigning.

  2. PantherU says:

@Thomas she’s been campaigning all over the state…

  3. Duane says:

(from a Journal article on what Tom Tiffany’s political consultants had to say about Francesca in a leaked memo)…

“Unlike more moderate or establishment Democrats, Hong energizes the progressive base in a way that could drive record Democratic turnout precisely when midterms historically favor the party out of power,” the consultants wrote. “Her issues resonate broadly with working- and middle-class voters and have some crossover with our populist positions. Hong could bring some turnout advantages with positions that reach outside Democrats’ core base.”
Tiffany’s consultants characterized Hong’s policy agenda as “broadly popular and difficult to counter.”
Her platform is “built around kitchen-table issues that poll strongly with independents, working families, and even some rural voters, issues that directly undercut Republican messaging on taxes and cost of living,”
