Cruelty over compassion: Trump denies disaster aid
MADISON – Gov. Tony Evers issued this statement today after the Trump Administration denied federal aid for six Wisconsin counties impacted by severe storms and flooding in August.
Executive Director Kerry Schumann had this to say about the Trump Administration’s refusal to help Wisconsin:
Turning your back on families facing washed-out roads, damaged schools, and flooded homes because they’re not seen as political allies is unconscionable.
These communities didn’t cause this crisis, but they’re living through it. They deserve leadership that helps them recover and protects them from the next flood, not one that deepens the damage.
Time and again, Trump has issued executive orders and signed laws that worsen the climate crisis. Denying disaster aid while fueling the very conditions that create it is indefensible.
There’s nothing worse for Wisconsinites in peril than this kind of calculated cruelty.”
