Criminal charges issued against suspect in fatal accident
On Thursday, June 4, 2020, at about 4:48 p.m., Milwaukee Police investigated a fatal accident that occurred on the 600 block of W. Locust Street. Milwaukee Police officers observed a vehicle driving westbound on W. Center Street while multiple individuals were hanging out of the windows. The vehicle went through a red light.
Milwaukee Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle near the 600 block of W. Center Street; however, the vehicle refused to pull over, speed up and subsequently struck a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on the 600 block of West Locust Street. One of the passengers of the striking vehicle was a 22 year old Milwaukee man. He was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
An additional passenger of the striking vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver of the striking vehicle, Tess G. Monty was arrested.
On Monday, June 8, 2020, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office issued one count of vehicle operator flee / elude an officer resulting in the death of another and one count of vehicle operator flee / elude an officer resulting in great bodily harm against Monty for her involvement in the fatal accident. If found guilty, Monty could face up to 27 years, 6 months in prison and fined up to $75,000.
