Creation of deputy director position within Election Commission moves forward
At today’s (Monday, September 14) meeting of the Judiciary and Legislation Committee, the committee recommended approval of file # 200508 – A substitute ordinance relating to the appointment of a deputy by the executive director of the Election Commission. The file was sponsored by Common Council President Cavalier Johnson. The ordinance authorizes the Election Commission executive director to appoint a deputy director, who after taking the oath of office required to be taken by the executive director, may perform all the duties imposed by law or the ordinances of the city on the executive director.
“I want to thank my colleagues for recommending passage of this file to create the necessary and vital position of deputy director in the Election Commission,” said President Johnson. “There are many duties and responsibilities the executive director must carry out, and having a deputy director allows for more flexibility and support should the executive director not be available. I believe this will allow the Election Commission to function with a greater efficiency.”
The file will be before the full Common Council for adoption at its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, September 22nd.
