County Clerk Czarnezki Congratulates Same Sex Couples and Thanks Staff
“Judge Crabb’s decision is a giant step towards marriage equality,”
Milwaukee County Clerk Joe Czarnezki congratulated the 230 Milwaukee County couples who received marriage licenses following U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb’s ruling that Wisconsin’s same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional.
Czarnezki expressed both gratitude and disappointment with Judge Crabb’s final ruling.
“Judge Crabb’s decision is a giant step towards marriage equality,” Czarnezki said. “While, I am disappointed that Judge Crabb stayed her final decision, I appreciate the eight-day window she provided to couples who wanted to marry,” Czarnezki added.
Czarnezki also applauded the efforts of courthouse staff.
“I want to thank the staff of the County Clerk’s office for working overtime and giving up their Saturday to help these couples to marry. The entire staff was welcoming and professional throughout a happy, yet sometimes hectic, time,” Czarnezki said.
Czarnezki also thanked County Executive Abele, Chief Judge Jeffrey Kremers, County Board Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic, the judges and court commissioners who performed wedding ceremonies, and the courthouse facilities staff for their assistance and support.
