Council Approves $60,000 Allocation for Bay View Community Center

During today’s meeting of the Common Council, the Council adopted a set of recommendations for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. Among the full slate of recommendations was an allocation of $60k for the Bay View Community Center (BVCC) for special economic development. The funding will bolster BVCC’s ongoing Commercial Kitchen Entrepreneur Support Program – an effort aimed at assisting aspiring food entrepreneurs, particularly those facing language barriers, with the many challenges in navigating an upstart business.

14th District Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic believes these funds will make a sizable impact in the community. “The BVCC has done a tremendous job during the last two years of building out a commercial kitchen space to support local entrepreneurs who aspire to run a food-centric business,” she said. “I’m proud to have helped advocate for more city funding to support their incredible mission which serves so many beyond Bay View. From their family resource center to their food pantry, the BVCC is improving the lives of so many.”

“This funding is more than just an investment in a program, it’s an investment in people. By supporting the Bay View Community Center’s Businesses Incubator, we’re giving local food entrepreneurs, especially those facing language and access barriers, the tools they need to succeed and thrive in our city’s economy,” said Diana Billstrom, Bay View Community Center Executive Director.

The BVCC allocation was part of a package of recommendations totaling $2.05 million. The full list of allocation recommendations can be viewed here.
