MILWAUKEE— After a spectacular debut at Bradford Beach, Joy Engine’s ArtBlaze on the Beach moves to South Shore Beach this Wednesday, July 31. This new annual series celebrating Milwaukee’s beaches and art scene features The Great Cosmopods, bonfires with smores, art activities, food trucks, and a big music stage facing Lake Michigan. Free and open to the public, ArtBlaze begins with family-friendly activities at 3:30 p.m. and progresses into a glowing dance party as night rolls in.

Big public events do not happen on Milwaukee’s beaches, but, this summer, Joy Engine is changing that. After the next two Wednesdays at South Shore, ArtBlaze will return for its final beach party of the summer at Bradford Beach on August 21.

At each ArtBlaze, a visit from three awe-inspiring Cosmopods (cosmopodicus magnus) is anticipated. First detected through acoustic analysis by the team of cyberquatic engineers at ICOR Laboratories, researchers are searching for clues as to whether these creatures evolved in the lake or traveled from a distant cosmic home in search of habitable waters. While they are clearly intelligent, ICOR has yet to successfully communicate with these enigmatic beings. What is clear is that the fragile freshwater ecosystem of the lake leaves the fate of the Cosmopods precarious. It is believed that these may be the last of the great Cosmopods.
