MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov.15, 2018) – Conversations with Komen, presented by Kohl’s, teamed up with certified WERQ Group Fitness Instructor, Trair Wise to bring the latest workout craze to the Komen Corner. On Nov. 24, WERQ (pronounced “work”) will get participants moving to the latest chart-toppers in hip-hop and pop music using nonverbal cues.

Beginning at 10 a.m. guests are invited to attend an hour-long dance session in the large gym at the COA Goldin Center where the new Komen Corner – A Resource Center is located. WERQ is one of the first Healthy Lifestyle classes hosted by Conversations with Komen as part of the new healthy living initiative of the program.

WERQ pairs dance with fitness to current hip-hop and pop music, creating a sweaty, fun dance party that’s suitable for all ages and fitness abilities.

“WERQ is the perfect way to have fun while embracing a healthy lifestyle,” said Dana Smith, Program Director for Conversations with Komen. “One way to reduce your risk for breast cancer is to commit to a healthy lifestyle. Physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day can help reduce your risk of developing breast cancer. Working out doesn’t have to be a burden, WERQ gets you moving while having fun.”

The Komen Corner is a designated home for Conversations with Komen. The program encourages participants to openly discuss breast health, the importance of breast self-awareness and regular breast screenings. This year, Conversations with Komen is promoting a new Healthy Lifestyle initiative to give the community tools that may reduce their risk of breast cancer.

“Our goal is to provide the community with resources to services and activities that have the ability to reduce their risk,” said Smith. “Healthy living, combined with breast health education and screenings, are some of the important tools for women to use to be proactive in their breast health.”

The WERQ healthy lifestyle class is free for all participants. For more information visit the WERQ Fitness Class event page on Susan G. Komen Wisconsin’s Facebook Page or call the Komen Corner at (414) 873-PINK.
