MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sept. 4, 2018) – Susan G. Komen Wisconsin has hired a new program manager for the breast health education program, Conversations with Komen, presented by Kohl’s. Dana Smith will lead Conversations with Komen as the Program Manager, overseeing the program’s breast health conversations, the newly opened resource center, Komen Corner, and healthy lifestyle initiatives.

Smith brings over seven years of non-profit experience to Komen. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in 2011 and participated in AmeriCorps Public Allies program in 2013. Smith also brings four years of experience as the past Program Assistant for the Conversations program.

“We are so elated to promote Dana,” said Nikki Panico, Executive Director for Komen. “Her passion for non-profit work and the community and making meaningful connections is so inspiring. I know she will bring great programming to a community that has a greater breast cancer mortality rate over other neighboring communities.”

As a Milwaukee native, Smith has many deep connections throughout the community. She has served on many community boards such as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Urban Underground and the Vice President on the Board of Directors for Lead 2 Change.

“Building connections within the community I grew up in is so important to me,” said Smith. “As the program manager, I’m really looking forward to putting my connections to use at the Komen Corner. We will have some great healthy lifestyle classes in the coming months.”

The Komen Corner – A Resource Center is located in the COA Goldin Center in the heart of the Armani neighborhood and is a designated home for the Conversations with Komen program. The program encourages participants to openly discuss breast health, the importance of breast self-awareness and regular breast screenings.

Smith devotes her free time to her second passion of music. She performs the smooth sounds of alternative-soul music as Ms. Lotus Fankh locally and will be releasing a new EP in early 2019.
