MILWAUKEE, WI (June 25, 2020)— A generous local donor has contributed $260,000 to the #ConnectMilwaukee campaign. This is the largest individual gift in the non-profit’s history and covers over a quarter of the overall goal.
In just a couple of weeks, the MPS Foundation has seen overwhelming support for #ConnectMilwaukee — an effort to provide sustainable internet access to MPS students and families – receiving over 100 donations bringing the running total to $300,000.
“This campaign resonates with me because of my firsthand experience. I’ve witnessed the additional challenges and barriers MPS students face because of their lack of access to reliable internet for academic achievement, especially now with COVID-19 making it essential that virtual learning be made possible,” said the anonymous donor. “I’m glad to be able to support the MPS Foundation’s work to provide an equitable solution.”
The Foundation is encouraged by Milwaukee’s support but remains focused and determined to raise the additional $700,000 to provide internet access to those families that urgently need it before next school year.
“Whether MPS Foundation receives $5 or $500, every dollar counts when it comes helping children”, says
Wendell Willis, MPS Foundation Executive Director. “However, it’s not every day you receive a check for over a quarter of million dollars. We are humbled and encouraged we’ll be able to meet our goal of raising $1 million for MPS students and families.”
