Condolences to family, friends of girl killed Saturday
Statement of Alderman Khalif J. Rainey - March 12, 2018
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the 9-year-old girl who died Saturday after she was accidentally shot by her brother in the family home in the 7th District near N. 38th St. and W. Ruby Ave. The entire family, loved ones and neighbors are in my thoughts and prayers.
This heartbreaking tragedy reminds us of the fragility of life and the need to offer support to those affected family and friends who are now in immense sorrow and pain. Gestures of kindness and support are needed at this difficult time.
I implore adults to keep all guns safely out of the reach of kids. Please use trigger locks or a gun safe if need be. Keeping guns under lock and key could help prevent tragedies like this one.
WestCare’s Youth Action Council will be going door-to-door offering free gun locks in the area of N. 38th near W. Ruby, and the free locks also will be available at WestCare, 335 W. Wright St.
