Committee set to discuss DNC finances, recruitment and retention of high-level positions

Joint statement from Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and Alderwoman Chantia Lewis

By - Sep 15th, 2020 03:09 pm

At tomorrow’s meeting of the Finance and Personnel Committee (Wednesday, September 16th at 9 a.m.) the committee will hear two communication files that we have jointly sponsored.

The first file is item #200639 – Communication from the Department of Administration relating to the final net cost of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to the City of Milwaukee. The DNC shifted greatly in nature as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and questions still exist about how these changes impacted spending for the event. The intent of the file is to answer these questions and determine what the final financial impact is to the city.

The committee will also hear file #200643 – Communication from the Department of Administration relating to its long-term plans for recruiting, hiring, and retaining candidates for certain high-level positions in City government.

In recent months the city has experienced significant turnover among department heads and other high-level positions. We see this communication file as an opportunity to publicly discuss the plan and timeline for filling these positions, as well as engaging in a conversation about the long-term vision for our local government. Stable leadership is crucial to having our departments run effectively and efficiently, and as such having the right people in place moving forward is of the utmost importance.

We encourage residents interested in these items to watch the committee meeting live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) or via streaming video on the city website at city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
