Climate Change Panel Discussion Hosted by Milwaukee Area Science Advocates
MASA to hold Panel Discussion on the Implications of Climate Change on Science Education, Public Health and Sustainability
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Area Science Advocates (MASA) will be hosting a panel discussion including Milwaukee area experts in the fields of climate change, science education, public health, and sustainability at their Kickoff event. The event will take place on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. in Walker’s Point
The panel of speakers will be focused on the implications of climate change for science education, public health, and sustainability. Local Milwaukee experts on the panel will include:
- Dr. Mark D. Schwartz, Distinguished Professor of Climatology at UWM
- Melissa Tashjian, Founder at Compost Crusader
- Hillary Olson, VP of Audience & Community Engagement at Milwaukee Public Museum
- Dr. Thalia M. Williams, Community Engagement Coordinator at Zilber School of Public Health, UWM
The panel discussion is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and will be moderated by Brandon Gross, Advocacy Director of MASA.
The event will also include live music by King Courteen and Coyote, a Kid’s Science Zone with various activities and performances, a voter registration table hosted by the League of Women Voters, and science exhibits and informational booths hosted by local organizations including Discovery World, American Science and Surplus, Milwaukee Makerspace, MSOE Center for Biomolecular Modeling, and the City of Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO).
Food trucks will be available at the event from 4-7:30 p.m. and will include Lumpia City and Blue Cow Creperie. The event will be composted by Compost Crusader. A silent auction will be held in support of MASA with auction items including: Milwaukee Public Museum tickets, Discovery World passes, Denis Sullivan sailing vessel certificates, an Edward Tufte book set, and more!
