MILWAUKEE – The disease burden in the City of Milwaukee this week decreased to 239.1 new positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over seven days and remains in the “extreme transmission” category. The percentage of positive COVID-19 test results decreased to 12.8% and moved into the “extreme transmission” category. Additionally, based on U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, Milwaukee County moved into the High COVID-19 Community Level.

Currently, 64.7% of city of Milwaukee adults 16 years and older are fully vaccinated, and 48.8 % of fully vaccinated individuals have received a booster dose. Of children ages 5 to 11, 20.2% have completed their pediatric COVID-19 vaccine series and 24.4% have received at least one dose.

Following the authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the CDC approved a recommendation for children ages 5 to 11 to receive a booster dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, at least five months after completing the primary series. All Milwaukee Health Department COVID-19 sites have this booster dose available for eligible individuals. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is the only vaccine authorized and recommended for 5 to 17 year olds for the primary series and booster doses at this time.

COVID-19 services, in addition to all Health Department clinic and office hours, will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observation of Memorial Day. Beginning Tuesday, May 31, the Milwaukee Health Department will adjust the hours of operation for the three COVID-19 sites. The adjusted hours reflect the current demand for COVID-19 services. The sites are in a position to increase hours and services if and when the demand requires it.
