Choice Neighborhood Business Resource Fair

May 14th event to highlight programs helping businesses grow on Milwaukee’s Northwest Side

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee’s Choice Neighborhood Initiative (CNI) and partners will host a free Business Resource Fair to promote resources available to help businesses grow in the CNI neighborhood on Milwaukee’s northwest side.  The CNI area is centered around the Westlawn Gardens neighborhood at N. 64th Street and W. Silver Spring Drive.

The Resource Fair will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Victory Manor, 5556 N. 68th Street.

The event will feature resources designed to support the development of retail, commercial and home-based businesses in this growing market of opportunity. Westlawn Gardens, located at N. 64th Street and W. Silver Spring Drive, is in the midst of major homebuilding construction, with 340 completed apartment homes, another 94 apartments under construction, and hundreds more mixed-income homes in development over the next several years.

In addition to a wide range of city and other resources available to support business development, the CNI and partners are offering unique resources available to help businesses grow in the CNI area, including:

  • A Small Business Revolving Loan Fund in partnership with Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corp. to support the creation, maintenance and expansion of businesses in the CNI area.
  • Exterior Revitalization Grants in partnership with Havenwoods Economic Development Corp. and the City of Milwaukee to improve facades, signage and landscaping of businesses.

The Business Resource Fair will host informational booths staffed by representatives from the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC); KIVA Micro-lending; U.S. Small Business Administration; CIBC Bank; African American Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin; Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee; HUD Section 3 National Registry, and more.  In addition, two workshops will be offered:

  • 4:15 – 5:15 pm: Work for Yourself @ 50+ – an overview of resources available to help individuals aged 50+ supplement their income or move into full-time entrepreneurship
  • 5:30 – 6:30 pm: Take It To The Next Level – an overview of CNI resources available to businesses of all sizes

Milwaukee’s Choice Neighborhood Initiative (CNI) is focused on helping the emerging area of Westlawn Gardens and the surrounding neighborhood reach its full potential as a sustainable, green community with quality housing, schools, businesses, services, and amenities.  The CNI area includes N. Sherman Boulevard east to N. 76th Street and W. Villard Avenue north to W.
