Chairwoman Nicholson Proposal to Reestablish Youth Commission Unanimously Adopted
MILWAUKEE – Today the County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a proposal by Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson, County Executive David Crowley, and 1st Vice Chair Sequanna Taylor to reestablish the Milwaukee County Youth Commission.
“At a time when positive engagement with our youth is needed most, I am proud to offer young people in our community a real seat at the table to shape policies and programs that impact their day-to-day lives,” said Chairwoman Nicholson. “I look forward to working with County Executive Crowley, my County Board colleagues, and schools within Milwaukee County to enable this commission to get to work and get our youth engaged in the civic process. The ‘Take a Child to Work Day’ will also give any young person in our community the opportunity to see public service firsthand from the changemakers in our Milwaukee County workforce. Thank you to all of my colleagues for their unanimous support of this legislation.”
The commission will be made up of at least 20 high school-aged youth with at least one commissioner representing each supervisory district. Chairwoman Nicholson and County Executive Crowley will each appoint one co-chair.
Youth interested in joining the commission will soon be able to request an application from their County Supervisor, the County Executive, or access one on the Milwaukee County website. A selection committee consisting of two adults and three youth jointly appointed by the County Board Chairwoman and County Executive will select the first youth commissioners.
