Chairwoman Nicholson Congratulates Carl Ashley on Becoming Chief Judge of 1st Judicial District
MILWAUKEE – Yesterday Circuit Court Judge Carl Ashley was named as the next Chief Judge of Wisconsin’s First Judicial District, where he will lead Milwaukee County Circuit Court. Chairwoman Nicholson released the following statement on the leadership transition:
“I’d like to congratulate Judge Ashley on the major accomplishment of becoming Chief Judge for Milwaukee County Circuit Court. Judge Ashley is a champion for diversity and inclusion in the legal field and has been a leader on advancing equity in our criminal justice system.
“As we continue to work through challenges related to backlogs in our court system, Judge Ashley is the right person to lead at this time. I am confident that he has what it takes to lead a court system that will advance a safer, more equitable Milwaukee County.
“I would also like to thank Judge Triggiano for her many years of dedication to Milwaukee County’s courts. I know she will continue to drive effective change in her upcoming role with Marquette Law School. I wish her all the best and look forward to continued collaboration.”
Judge Ashley begins the new role on Saturday, April 15. He currently serves as Deputy Chief Judge.
Current Chief Judge Mary Triggiano recently announced she would be stepping down to become Director of the Andrew Center for Restorative Justice at Marquette University Law School.
