MILWAUKEE — County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson and County Supervisor Peter Burgelis are pleased to announce that the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors will be honoring and presenting citations to prominent members of the LGBTQ+ community in a special program at the County Board’s June 22nd meeting.

Despite the recent assault he suffered on June 12, 2023, Supervisor Burgelis has remained determined to move forward with this important event, sending a powerful message of solidarity, unity, and the indomitable spirit of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Today, we recommit Milwaukee County to supporting and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating those who make a substantial positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community in Milwaukee County,” Supervisor Burgelis stated. “Today we are making up for lost time. We have dozens of people to recognize, not because so much has been done in the past year, but because decades and even years ago, there was little to no recognition of the LGBTQ+ community. I am thankful to work with a Chairperson who enables our County Board to honor these well-deserving individuals.”

The following individuals and organizations will be receiving citations of recognition in the categories of “Community Leaders and Activists,” “Government Leaders,” “Business and Cultural Leaders,” and “Health and Wellness Leaders”:

Senator Tim Carpenter, Representative Marisabel Cabrera, Register of Deeds Israel Ramón, Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa, Dr. Ian Martin, Dr. Andrew Petroll, Phillip Bailey, Rick Banks, Tim Baack, Bet-z Boenning, Donna Burkett, Brenda Coley, Loree Cook-Daniels, Margaret Daun, Sharon Dixon, BJ Daniels, Ester Flonaze, Karen Gotzler, Diane Gregory, Connor Goggans, Ronnie Grace, John George, Denise Wandke, Karen Gotzler, Ruthie Keester, Nate Koch, Jim Lautenbach, Lael Anthony MacLellen, Megin McDonell, Jim Melotte, Michael Munson, Jen Murray, Jason Rae, Ronnie Rivera, Jack Smith, Tony Snell Rodriguez, Wes Shaver, Jen Murray, Brad and Nick Schlaikowski, Dan Terrio, Ross Walker and Erv Uecker, PBS Wisconsin, Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers HIV Department, and Saturday Softball Beer League (SSBL)

Chairwoman Nicholson and Supervisor Burgelis invite the public to watch a livestream of this celebration beginning at 9:30 AM on June 22, 2023, and express their support for the outstanding achievements of these individuals and organizations.
