Chávez Day will begin at 12 p.m. and feature remarks from Jennifer Moffitt, Under Secretary of Agriculture for Marketing and Regulatory Programs. Media coverage is invited.
Beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m., resource tables from various city programs and agencies will be on-site in the first floor rotunda of City Hall. The event is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by President Pérez, Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa, Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic, the City of Milwaukee, Avanzando, and the Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative. “I am honored to again host Milwaukee’s César E. Chávez Day celebration here at City Hall in recognition of everything César Chávez accomplished,” President Pérez said. “Milwaukee is a city that celebrates people of all cultures, and I am proud to spotlight Mr. Chávez’s remarkable life and contributions to our history and society that still resonate today.”
In 2014, President Pérez co-sponsored Common Council legislation designating March 31 annually as “César E. Chávez Day” in observance of the birthday of César E. Chávez, and established that day as an optional holiday for city employees.
