Cedarburg Cultural Center brings 15th Annual “Plein Air” Art Contest for Youth to Cedarburg, Wisconsin from June 14-22, 2018

CEDARBURG, WI (May 17, 2018): The Cedarburg Cultural Center is pleased to present the 15th Annual “Plein Air” Art Contest for Youth ages 17 and under. “En plein air” is a French term meaning “in open air” and is used to describe the long-standing tradition of painting outdoors.

The youth contest begins at 10 am on Thursday, June 14 and is a unique opportunity for budding young artists to portray Ozaukee County’s beauty and historic charm. Participants will return one completed work of art to the Center by NOON on Friday, June 22. Rules and registration forms are available at the Center or online at http://cedarburgculturalcenter.org/ypa.html.  Awards will be presented in each age category: 5 & under, ages 6-8, ages 9-12 and ages 13-17.

An exhibit of all artwork will be ready for viewing at the Cedarburg Cultural Center beginning Saturday, June 23 at 10 am. Stop in during Strawberry Festival to cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award. An awards ceremony for all ages will take place Wednesday, June 27 at 6 pm. The exhibit ends at 4 pm on Saturday, July 14 and artwork may be taken home after that time.

All artists age 17 and under are also invited to attend the eighth annual “Color Your World” Youth Plein Air Art Camp. The camp is a five-day art expedition through the historic city streets of Cedarburg on Monday, June 18; the trails and ponds of Riveredge Nature Center on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 19 and 20; the rural surroundings of the Family Farm on Thursday, June 21; and the marine magic Port Washington Marina on Friday, June 22. The camp runs from 9 am to noon each day and includes free entry into the “Plein Air” contest, supplies and a snack each day.  Parents must accompany children ages 5 and under. Serving simultaneously as a gallery, theater, museum and community gathering place, the mission of the Cedarburg Cultural Center is to provide a gathering place to celebrate community, arts, and local heritage.

The Cedarburg Cultural Center is free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 10am5pm and Sundays 12 – 4 pm. Closed Mondays.
