Carthage College announces 2021-22 fine arts season

KENOSHA, Wis. – While the pandemic has shuttered multiple art institutions and programs, Carthage has been able to adapt and continue its longstanding support of the arts. From live-streaming performances to implementing new procedures that allow our students to safely rehearse, Carthage has continued to provide numerous educational and musical opportunities to all members of the Carthage community. Now, we invite you to rejoin us in our communal celebration of the arts.

“The 2021–22 season celebrates the power of the arts to bring us together,” said Professor Corinne Ness, dean of the Division of Arts and Humanities.

Head over to the H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art to visit a curated selection of exhibits that bring in established artists and newcomers alike. See artists from our community through our Annual Intercollege Exchange Exhibition, our Seventh Annual Art Walk, and our numerous student exhibitions.

While our musical ensembles have been performing during the pandemic, this season will mark a full return in our performances and celebrations. Our Homecoming Concert will showcase the size and strength of the Carthage community, featuring numerous alumni guest artists. The Wind Orchestra and Philharmonic will travel out into the world through various performing and J-Term study tours, bringing back new lessons and experiences to share during their return concerts.

Speaking of new experiences, Carthage welcomes multiple new members to our community. This season, the Carthage Choir will be led by Richard Bjella, our distinguished conductor-in-residence. Our Artists-In-Residence Program and New Play Initiative will bring in multiple guest artists, including Nora Caroll as artist-in-residence and Mary MacDonald Kerr as guest director for our theatre productions this season. In the spring, come join us as Matthew Hougland, our new assistant professor, music directs the charming musical “Something Rotten!”

In addition to celebrating our ability to come together with the arts, we are also celebrating the 25th anniversary of our Performing Arts Series. Come watch a diverse set of performances including Alash, a trio of master throat singers from Tuva, and two-time GRAMMY® award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer.

Finally, we are proud to invite you back to one of our prized treasures here at Carthage, this year’s Carthage Christmas Festival “Come to Us, Abide with Us.” Come together in the A. F. Siebert Chapel and enjoy the festivities, culminating in a service filled with candlelight.
