MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv are teaming up to send local kids back to school with free book bags and supplies. A giveaway event with games and food was held Thursday, Aug. 25 at the Mary Ryan Boys & Girls Club in Sherman Park.

“The Bucks are proud to work side by side with Fiserv, where we can come together for our mutual community partner, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, and provide necessary school supplies to students in our community,” said Arvind Gopalratnam, Milwaukee Bucks Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Each book bag was filled with a notebook, folder and pack of pencils. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (BGCGM) members were also treated to an afternoon of fun. The green space at Sherman Park was transformed into a school-year kickoff celebration with music provided by Greg Adams, also known as DJ GeeA and radio host for Hot 105.7. Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs were provided for lunch. Kids then teamed up with Bucks volunteers for a game of kickball.

“As children in our community return to school, we have an opportunity to provide them the tools they need to build a foundation for success throughout their lives,” said Neil Wilcox, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Fiserv. “We are continually inspired by the members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and are proud to partner with the Milwaukee Bucks to support the youth in our community as they continue their educational journeys.”

The celebration concluded with a surprise visit from the Bucks official mascot, Bango, and the inflation of two bounce castles.

“This event was all about giving our Club members a boost before the school year begins. Whether that’s a book bag filled with supplies, a tasty lunch, or the reassurance knowing we’re here to support and cheer them on in the classroom,” said Kathy Thornton-Bias, BGCGM President & CEO. “We really appreciate the Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv for extending their generosity as our Club members head back to class.”

BGCGM recently announced the opening of nine new Club sites this fall, increasing access to educational resources, safe and inclusive spaces and healthy meals. Parents and guardians can enroll children at any Club location or online.
