Bryan Steil Dodges Questions on Gun Safety, Refuses to Say How He’ll Keep Our Children Safe
MADISON, Wis. — The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel asked Wisconsin’s congressional candidates to answer questions on the three issues voters said were most important to them this election cycle: health care, inflation, and gun violence. But for Bryan Steil, even that was too much to ask.
Bryan Steil repeatedly votes against common-sense gun legislation, even when the overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites support universal background checks and red flag laws. It’s clear Steil is content to let the gun violence crisis run unchecked and leave Wisconsinites in harm’s way.
Revisit Bryan Steil’s track record on guns below:
- Steil is a self-described “strong advocate” of the Second Amendment.
- Steil voted against the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which required mandatory background checks for 18-year-olds when purchasing firearms, cracked down on gun trafficking and straw purchasers, and tightened the “boyfriend loophole” that allowed domestic abusers to acquire weapons. In Wisconsin, 79% of voters support universal background checks on gun sales, and 81% back red flag laws.
- Despite Wisconsinites overwhelmingly supporting common sense gun safety reforms, Bryan Steil co-sponsored a bill that would weaken common sense gun safety laws by requiring all states to recognize concealed carry permits issued by other state governments.
