Bronzeville Week continues with variety of events highlighting arts, wellness and more
Bronzeville Week, an official City of Milwaukee event hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs now in its 12th year, rolls on this week with events highlighting arts, wellness, and culture. Alderwoman Coggs is encouraging residents to take advantage of the forthcoming opportunities to participate in Bronzeville Week.
Tuesday, August 8 begins with a hybrid event – Building Bronzeville: Real Estate Opportunities. The event will take place at 9 a.m. at the African American Chamber of Commerce, 1920 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. The event can also be viewed virtually at Facebook.com/BronzevilleWeek. Tuesday’s activities will also include the Dr. William Finlayson Street Renaming Ceremony at 11 a.m. at the intersection of 5th and North Ave., and Be Fueled, a food demonstration, set to take place from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Food For Health, 2007 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Registration is required for the food demonstration and can be accessed by visiting foodforhealth.org. The day concludes with Food for Thought Poetry, hosted by Trunk Bussa and DJ Gideon, featuring artists King Kamonzi, Melissa Blue and Shelly Conley beginning at 7 p.m. at The Q, 2730 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr.
Wednesday concludes with The Blood Connection: Connecting the Drops with Versiti. This panel discussion includes a conversation of how blood collection connects to organ transplants, transfusions during child birth, Sickle Cell, and gun violence. The panel will be moderated by Reggie Brown, and panelists include Alderwoman Andrea M. Pratt, Derek Mosley, JD, and David Milia, MD, FACS. The event will take place at America’s Black Holocaust Museum, 408 W. North Ave. The networking portion of the event will begin at 5 p.m. with the panel discussion starting at 6 p.m.
