Brewers Acquire Right-handed Pitcher Quinn Priester from Red Sox
Send Outfielder Yophery Rodriguez, 2025 Competitive Balance Round A Selection and a Player to Be Named to Boston
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for outfielder Yophery Rodriguez, their 2025 Competitive Balance Round A selection and a player to be named. Priester will report to the Major League club. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Grant Wolfram was designated for assignment. The announcement was made by Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold.
Priester, 24, was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round (18th overall) of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of Cary-Grove (IL) High School. He entered 2024 as the eighth-best prospect in the Pirates organization according to Baseball America before he was traded to Boston in exchange for infielder/outfielder Nick Yorke last July 29.Priester, who was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the 60th-best prospect in all of baseball as recently as 2023, has pitched parts of two seasons in the Major Leagues with Pittsburgh (2023-24) and Boston (2024), appearing in 21 games (15 starts). Over his Minor League career (2019-25), he has gone 26-17 with a 3.61 ERA in 87 games (84 starts) while recording 428 strikeouts in 408.2 innings pitched.
Prior to today’s trade, Priester had been pitching at Triple-A Worcester, where he made his season debut last Thursday at Jacksonville (L, 4ip, 6h, 2r, 2er, 0bb, 6k, 1wp, 87 pitches).
