MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired right-handed pitcher Nick Mears from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for right-handed pitchers Bradley Blalock and Yujanyer Herrera (you-HAHN-yehr). The announcement was made this afternoon by Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold.

Mears, who turns 28 on Oct. 7, is 1-4 with a 5.56 ERA in 41 relief appearances with Colorado this season. He has 57 strikeouts in just 45.1 innings pitched. Over his last 12 outings, he has posted a 1.80 ERA (15ip, 3er) while holding opponents to a .160 batting average (8-for-50, 4bb, 18k, 0hr). Mears is under club control through the 2027 season.
Mears has 93 career appearances – all coming in relief – with Pittsburgh (2020-22) and Colorado (2023-24). He has produced 110 career strikeouts in just 95.0 innings pitched. He was originally signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent on Aug. 22, 2018 out of Sacramento City College.
Blalock, 23, was acquired by Milwaukee last Aug. 1 in the deal that sent infielder Luis Urías to Boston. He made his Major League debut earlier this season, appearing in one game with the Brewers (6/20 at San Diego). Blalock went 5-2 with a 4.08 ERA in 16 starts at Double-A Biloxi this season.
Herrera, 20, signed with Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent on Aug. 17, 2019. He has pitched this season at Class-A Carolina (4g) and Class-A Wisconsin (12g, 9gs), going a combined 9-1 with a 2.91 ERA in 16 games/9 starts.
