Brewers Acquire Infielder/Outfielder Jett Williams and Right-Handed Pitcher Brandon Sproat From Mets
Send Right-Handed Pitchers Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers to New York
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired infielder/outfielder Jett Williams and right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat from the New York Mets in exchange for right-handed pitchers Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Matt Arnold.
Arnold added, “Decisions like this are never easy. Freddy will always be a beloved member of the Brewers family who positively affected the team and community both on and off the field. We watched him grow from a 19-year-old prospect into an All-Star. We would also like to recognize the contributions from Tobias, a testament to our player development and scouting group who overcame adversity to become a key contributor over the last two seasons. We wish both players and their families the best going forward.”
Williams, who turned 22 on November 3, was selected by the Mets in the first round (14th overall) of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of Rockwall-Heath (TX) High School. He is currently the third-best prospect in the Mets organization according to MLB Pipeline and was most recently listed as the 30th-best prospect in baseball. Williams is also currently ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Mets organization and 71st in baseball according to Baseball America. He was tabbed by that publication with the best infield arm and being the fastest baserunner in the organization.
Williams appeared in 130 games last season between Double-A Binghamton (96g) and Triple-A Syracuse (34g), where he combined to hit .261 with 17 HR, 52 RBI and 34 SB while posting a .363 OBP/.465 SLG/.828 OPS. He was a 2025 Eastern League All-Star and named the league’s top Major League prospect following the season (.281, 10 HR, 37 RBI, 32 SB, .390 OBP, .477 SLG, .867 OPS).
Sproat, 25, was selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Florida. He is currently listed as the fifth-best prospect in the Mets organization by both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. He is ranked 81st among prospects in baseball according to the latter publication.
Sproat went 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) at Triple-A Syracuse last season. He had 113 strikeouts in 121.0 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .218 batting average. He went on to make his Major League debut in September, going 0-2 with a 4.79 ERA in 4 starts with New York.
The 2024 Mets Minor League Pitcher of the Year and Eastern League Pitcher of the Year has gone 15-10 with a 3.83 ERA in 50 games (48 starts) during his Minor League career, recording 244 strikeouts in 237.1 innings pitched with opponents batting just .214.
Peralta, 29, who is eligible for free agency following the 2026 season, was acquired by Milwaukee from the Seattle Mariners along with two other pitchers in exchange for first baseman Adam Lind on December 9, 2015. The two-time All-Star is 70-42 with a 3.59 ERA and 1 save in 211 appearances (162 starts) in the Major Leagues. He ranks third on the all-time franchise list in strikeouts behind Yovani Gallardo (1,226) and Ben Sheets (1,206).
