BMO Harris Bank Unveils its Annual Holiday Display, “Welcome to Kandy Korners”

The city’s beloved winter tradition – this year with a candy theme – on view Nov. 30 through Jan. 4

MILWAUKEE – BMO Harris Bank today unveiled that its much-anticipated annual holiday exhibit, “Welcome to Kandy Korners,” will be a holiday window display that harkens back to the department store window displays of the past and will feature a full city block of holiday magic. This is the 48th year that the bank has offered this wonderful event as its traditional holiday gift to the community.

The whimsical arrangement will be featured in a safe and socially-distant format along the block of 770-790 N. Water St., and will be illuminated so passersby can view it even when it is dark outside. As always, this gift to the community is free and open to the public from Nov. 30 through Jan. 4 – and BMO Harris Bank would like to remind visitors to maintain six feet of distance between parties.

“We are pleased to have transformed the BMO Harris Bank Holiday Display into a window exhibit this year to ensure that our visitors can view it from outdoors in a safe and socially-distant manner,” said Jud Snyder, BMO’s Senior Executive for Southeast Wisconsin. “I remember visiting the elaborately decorated downtown department store windows as a child, and we hope that our visitors will be able to create the same wonderful memories visiting our windows this holiday season.”

The bank’s treasured collection of life-sized Steiff animals will be displayed in elaborately designed vignettes, sharing the imaginative tales of playful adventures, charming scenery and the sweetest memories.

In conjunction with the holiday display, BMO Harris will donate $30,000 to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin to help feed Milwaukee-area families throughout the holiday season.

Display History
The BMO Harris Bank holiday collection of animals began in 1972, when 30 life-sized Steiff animals were discovered at the world’s largest toy store, FAO Schwartz in New York City. The BMO Harris Bank collection of Steiff animals has steadily grown to include more than 150 Steiff animals – collectors’ items originally made in Germany by Margarete Steiff, who hand-stitched the first tiny elephant and stuffed it with straw. Many of the figures are no longer being made. The world-renowned Steiff Company made the original teddy bear in 1903.

Over the past 48 years, the annual holiday display has included pieces such as: a fishing tugboat, a Victorian park, an igloo at the North Pole, a Yukon train, a snow queen palace, a candy factory, 1950s nostalgia featuring antique Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and a Holiday Busytown featuring the well-known characters from various illustrated children’s books by Richard Scarry.
