BBB Warning: Con Artists posing as Spectrum Cable
Milwaukee, Wis. – Recent reports to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Scam Tracker by consumers in various states including Wisconsin indicate that scammers are calling and emailing, claiming to be with Spectrum Cable.
The callers state that “you qualify” for a discount on your cable bill or offer to “lower your cable bill in half” – if you pay up front for one year’s service. Payment is requested in the form of Target Gift Cards. The caller may also ask for personal information.
BBB cautions against responding to this scam and reminds people that Caller ID is easily spoofed. Also, never give out information to anyone over the phone that you do not know.
If you receive such a call, hang up and report it to your local police department.
