Baldwin Wraps Up First Week of “Fighting for Wisconsin Families” Tour

In nearly a dozen stops, Baldwin talked Trump trade war, cost of childcare, GOP cuts to Medicaid, and supporting Wisconsin small businesses

Tour continues this week with stops in Douglas, Burnett, Buffalo, Pierce, St. Croix, Eau Claire, and Adams counties

WISCONSIN – On Saturday, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) wrapped up her first week of her “Fighting for Wisconsin Families” tour, making nearly a dozen stops in Milwaukee, Brown, Door, Lincoln, Sawyer, and Ashland counties. Baldwin met with parents, workers, seniors, and small business owners to hear firsthand how the Trump Administration’s reckless agenda is driving up costs and highlight her work to fight back.

In Milwaukee, Baldwin met with small business owners to hear about the impacts of President Trump’s erratic trade war and how they are forced to raise prices on their customers. Baldwin then visited ThriveOn to see firsthand how the community hub brings together services ranging from job training to childcare. Then, Senator Baldwin stopped by the State Fair to serve up one of Wisconsin’s best delicacies – cream puffs.

In Green Bay, Senator Baldwin toured Hinterland Brewery and heard from local businesses about the uncertainty they face because of President Trump’s trade war. Baldwin then stopped by Green Bay’s first-ever neighborhood community house – the Brown County United Way’s City East Center. To round out the day in Brown County, Senator Baldwin met with local business owners and Main Street Alliance members to hear how the Republicans’ budget bill is impacting them.

In Door County, Senator Baldwin toured Door County Medical Center and heard from impacted families and providers about how Medicaid cuts will impact rural healthcare and gut services that families rely on.

Heading north, Senator Baldwin convened a roundtable in Tomahawk with advocates and parents about the childcare crisis in Wisconsin. In Lincoln County, rates increased nearly 40%, with an annual cost of roughly $13,000 for one child. Baldwin then headed to Hayward to join WOJB radio on air and discuss the impacts the federal funding cuts will have on their operations. The cuts will eliminate 40% of WOJB’s operating budget, jeopardizing its ability to provide essential local news and emergency alerts. Then, Senator Baldwin toured the David R. Obey Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland.

This week, Senator Baldwin will continue her statewide tour with stops in Douglas, Burnett, Buffalo, Pierce, St. Croix, Eau Claire, and Adams counties.
