WISCONSIN – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) visited Racine and Kenosha to highlight resources she secured to deliver clean, renewable energy, improve public transportation, and expand access to high quality, affordable health care. In Racine, she joined Mayor Cory Mason to highlight $1.2 million she secured to develop a solar project at RYDE Racine’s Transit Garage to help cut energy costs for taxpayers, create renewable energy, and improve public transit and discuss the $2 million she secured to support the construction of a new community health center to provide affordable health care. Senator Baldwin also visited Kenosha to discuss how $3 million she delivered for solar panels is helping the city revitalize a closed auto manufacturing facility.

“I’m proud to go to bat for Wisconsin communities like Racine and Kenosha and deliver direct support that will make a real difference in people’s lives, growing our local economies, cutting costs, and ensuring working families can live safe and healthy lives,” said Senator Baldwin. “Whether it’s helping our neighbors get to work, school, or the grocery store so they can fully participate in our economy, building a renewable energy economy and providing clean air for our kids, or ensuring every Wisconsinite has access to affordable, quality health care, these federal investments will help our communities thrive.”

In Racine, Senator Baldwin discussed the $1.2 million she secured to develop a solar project at RYDE, Racine’s Transit Garage, to support the city’s electric bus fleet – the largest electric bus fleet in the state powered by solar energy. Senator Baldwin rode an electric bus to see how these funds are powering a new wave of sustainable transportation in Racine.

Senator Baldwin also visited the temporary location of the Racine Community Health Center to see the current site and discuss the $2 million she secured to support the construction of a new facility to meet the needs of the growing local community. At the current Racine Community Health Center, which disproportionally serves uninsured, underinsured, and low-income residents from Racine and surrounding areas, local leaders discussed how $2 million in funds Senator Baldwin delivered will help make care at the new facility more affordable and accessible.

Senator Baldwin also made a stop in Kenosha to discuss $3 million she secured for a solar panel project at the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood. The City of Kenosha is revitalizing a closed auto manufacturing facility and plans to ensure the entire site has as much sustainable and renewable energy as possible, including solar streetlights and solar lighting.

Senator Baldwin successfully included a total of $6.2 million for these projects through the annual federal budget process for 2022 and 2023.
