Annual Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant Winners Announced
For 34 years, Northcott Neighborhood House has presented the Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant to showcase the best of African American youth in Milwaukee. The winners of the 34th annual pageant were recently announced, with Miss Juneteenth and Mister Juneteenth (ages 14 years old to 18 years old), and Little Miss Juneteenth and Mister Juneteenth Junior (ages 8 years old to 13 years old), being selected for their excellence and commitment in both school and their community.
Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, a longtime Juneteenth supporter whose 6th District includes the home of the annual Juneteenth celebration, said she believes it is important to honor the young pageant winners. “These young people have demonstrated excellence both in school and in their communities, and are our future leaders,” she said. “It is important that we as city leaders take the opportunity to recognize their hard work and support them along their journey.”
