Anderson Says: Take US Back from the Brink of Nuclear War
A coalition of Milwaukee peace groups, among them the Greater Milwaukee Green Party, Peace Action Wisconsin, and Veterans For Peace, Chapter 102 are asking the Common Council to join some 80 local governments in supporting the “Back From The Brink” resolution for nuclear weapons disarmament.
This resolution calls on calls on United States leaders to implement the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons by taking these steps:
- Actively pursue a verifiable agreement among nuclear-armed states to eliminate their nuclear arsenals.
- Renounce the option of using nuclear weapons first (which China has done).
- End the sole, unchecked authority of any U.S. President to launch a nuclear attack.
- Take U.S. nuclear weapons off hair-trigger (high) alert.
- Cancel the plan to replace the entire U.S. nuclear arsenal with enhanced weapons.
“It’s time to take the world off the hair-trigger alert, and unite to fight the global climate crisis,” Anderson said. “No one benefits from nuclear war besides the giant corporations that profit from building weapons that can never be used.
“The city should also take immediate steps to divest its pension funds from the merchants of death. These are things I’ll fight for on the Common Council.”

Anderson says: “Democratize HACM!”
Jan 14th, 2025 by Josh AndersonIt’s time tenants were in charge of public housing in Milwaukee! Let tenants elect the HACM board!
Although I appreciate Josh Anderson’s earnest attempts at educating us about these global issues, I believe he has failed to localize the issue sufficiently for the City and specifically for the 3rd Aldermanic District in which he seeks election as an Alder. He has failed to provide insight into how City Alders can affect national policies, and has failed to provide tangible ways of supporting the 3rd District. Crime & Safety? How can he impact the hiring of more police or others to immediately help abate these concerns? Housing? How can he as an Alder affect absentee landlords and the availability of housing? Street maintenance & safety? How will he enhance snow and leaf removal, expedite traffic light modernization and improve traffic calming especially around Brady Street? Public Transit?? How will the City Alders impact a County run department (Milwaukee County Transit System)?
We all know many of the issues, but he and other Alder candidates need to focus very specifically on issues he can impact in the City (not County, not State, not Federal, not global), and how very specifically he plans to positively impact these issues.
